Google+ and my quest for simplicity

Well, it looks like the time may be coming where I am able to leave the world of Facebook and strike out into the brave new world of Google+. I'm really enjoying the simplicity of it, how my gmail is right there and functions like a proper email account, search is right there, how it all just integrates with my way of thinking. I like that it's become a one stop shop, without making everything complicated. I love the astounding amount of attention they've given to making it... Zen, minimalist, simple, easy.

Facebook lately is becoming more of a security concern with privacy policies that continually conflict with my own, it's getting cluttered and hard to use - and as a software developer, I'm accustomed to understanding complex environments. They constantly introduce new settings and default them to something no sane person would choose to set them to by default, they move things around so I can't find them any more and it's a continuous nag to relearn how to use it. They make it hard to do stuff I should be able to do simply, it is full of constant requests that I have to delete and block... it's become more of a frustration than a joy to use.

Alas, my entire family, all my friends and most people I've ever been acquainted with are on there, and so it's become easy to just fall in and use it to keep them abreast of what's going on in my life... so I hope that eventually they will all come over to Google+; Indeed I hope there will be tools that will make it easy for them to come over to Google+ and I will be able to ditch the Facebook Juggernaut and continue my efforts to simplify my life without it.

So now you will find me at http://gplus.to/BenAlabaster

  1. It's unfortunate that your friends on Facebook will never move. It'd be nice to have your friends, colleagues, & people you have something in common with all on one platform. My stuff isn't even getting to G+ at this point.
